The Committee has recently raised their profile within the healthcare world following the publication of the Handbook of Perioperative Medicines in 2016, and the revised edition in 2019. The Handbook has been widely acclaimed and is building a reputation as an essential resource for both pharmacy and medical practitioners in this clinical area.
If you would like to be involved in keeping this important resource up to date please get in touch with Sarah Tinsley on Sarah.Tinsley@uhnm.nhs.uk or Claire Frank on claire.frank@wales.nhs.uk. Ideally, we’re looking for people who work within pre-op assessment clinics or have a passion for perioperative medicines management.
The Committee has established close links with organisations such as the Royal College of Anaesthetists, working to both share their expertise and raise the profile of clinical pharmacy with the wider medical community in this area of practice.
The UKCPA Surgery & Theatres Committee led the production of the Handbook of Perioperative Medicines, the first national guidance to professionals working in this area of medicine. Developed collaboratively by clinical pharmacy experts working in the area of Surgery, the Handbook provides much needed evidence-based, best practice advice on the management of peri-operative medications, and has been endorsed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Preoperative Association.
The Committee share their expertise through delivering UKCPA Masterclasses and workshops, ensuring that they deliver a range of learning events relevant to practitioners at all stages of practice and speciality.
They also work closely with other organisations, such as the Royal College of Anaesthetists, on national audit projects, guidelines and advisory groups.
