The UKCPA Diabetes & Endocrinology Committee are leaders in clinical pharmacy and long-term condition management and are at the forefront of multi-disciplinary working and developing the profession to meet the demands of the future healthcare system. They represent expertise across all sectors of pharmacy, from hospital to community, GP practices and primary care commissioning groups, in addition to representing clinical pharmacy at national and international forums..
The Committee are enthusiastic about improving practice in all sectors of pharmacy. Our representatives work in all sectors and are involved in the development and review of the work to which we contribute. There is a strong element of mentoring, which allows our more senior and experienced representatives to support new members to develop their portfolios and take on new roles locally, regionally and nationally. All three consultant pharmacists in diabetes are members of the committee, as well as more newly qualified pharmacists that are just starting out in developing their specialist practice.
The Committee have strong links with Diabetes UK with Hannah Beba as the pharmacist representative on the Professional Council. Victoria Ruszala and Philip-Newland Jones are the pharmacy leads on the NHS England Endocrinology Clinical Reference Group and Philip is also a CQC specialist advisor.
Sallianne Kavanagh and Natasha Jacques are the pharmacist representatives on the current NICE diabetes guidelines review. The whole committee take part in the NICE consultation process with members supporting and sharing views to give a holistic approach.
Matthew Heppel represents the committee on the RPS core curriculum development programme and the whole committee is involved in the review and development of the Integrated Career and Competence Framework for pharmacists in diabetes.
Anna Hodgkinson, Hannah Syed, Michelle Lam and Sanjay Tanna are all based in primary care and we also have links with community colleagues to ensure that all sectors’ opinions and needs are included. Sanjay is a pharmacist representative on the PCDS committee.
