About this event

This is the third and final session in the Essentials: COPD and Asthma series, focusing on severe and uncontrolled asthma. It will cover key clinical features and referral criteria, the national consensus management pathway, and the roles of primary care, secondary care, and specialist severe asthma centres. The session will also review specialist treatment options, including biologic therapies, and explore future developments in biologic management.

Aim

This webinar aims to refresh and update attendees’ knowledge and skills on the identification and management of patients with severe and uncontrolled asthma.

Target audience

This webinar is suitable for secondary and primary care pharmacy professionals, particularly those with more advanced practice and knowledge as well as junior pharmacists starting out in respiratory.

Learning outcomes

After this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Define the clinical features, pathophysiology and specialist referral criteria for patients with severe, uncontrolled asthma.
  • Discuss the practicalities of implementation of the national consensus pathway for the management of this cohort of patients, including the role of primary and secondary care, and severe asthma centres
  • Describe the role of biologics as targeted therapies, their mechanisms of action, current licensed and NICE approved therapies, clinical efficacy, side effects and practicalities of treatment.
  • Evaluate potential future developments in biologic treatments for severe asthma.
