About this event

This journal club will explore the following systematic review: Biologic therapies targeting type 2 inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials, Pescaru, C et al.  The session will discuss the systematic review’s methodology, clinical relevance, links to previous research evidence, and how its findings could influence real‑world practice.

Aim

The aim of this journal club is to critically interpret the clinical evidence within the named systematic review on biological therapies targeting Type 2 inflammatory pathways in COPD, and to evaluate their clinical efficacy and safety and consider the relevance of this to real-world practice in the UK.

Target audience

This journal club is ideal for pharmacists involved in medicines optimisation across a range of healthcare sectors including primary and secondary care, commissioning, research/academia and community practice.

Learning outcomes

After this journal club, attendees should be able to:

  • Interpret key evidence from the systematic review and evaluate their clinical significance
  • Discuss the evidence for biologics within COPD management pathways, considering recent NICE Technology Appraisal for such agents
  • Discuss the implications of the systematic review to inform current and future clinical decision making for use of biologics in COPD
