About this event

This journal club will explore the JACC study “Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate for Management of Hyperkalemia during Spironolactone Optimization in Patients with Heart Failure.” The session will discuss the study’s methodology, clinical relevance, links to previous research evidence, and how its findings could influence real‑world practice, particularly for pharmacists involved in medicines optimisation and monitoring.

Aim

The aim of the journal club is to critically interpret the clinical evidence on sodium zirconium cyclosilicate in supporting MRA optimisation for patients with heart failure, and to evaluate its relevance to contemporary pharmacy practice.

Target audience

This journal club is suitable for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in hospital and generalist settings, including general practice and the community, as well as those working in academia.

Learning outcomes

After this journal club, attendees should be able to:

  • Interpret key evidence from the SZC–spironolactone optimisation study and evaluate their clinical significance.
  • Discuss the evidence for potassium binders within current HF optimisation pathways.
