About this event

Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is a common yet often poorly understood complication of cancer. Historically, management was largely limited to low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) injections. However, emerging evidence has shown that direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) can also be an effective treatment option, although certain caveats apply. This session will examine the subgroups of CAT patients who are most likely to benefit from DOAC therapy, as well as those for whom these agents may be less appropriate. It will also highlight the important role pharmacy teams can play in the management of CAT.

Aim

The aim of this webinar is to improve attendees’ specialist understanding of the appropriate use of DOACs in patients with cancer-associated thrombosis.

Target audience

This webinar is aimed at pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working across hospital and generalist settings who are interested in developing their specialist understanding of the appropriate use of DOACs in patients with cancer-associated thrombosis.

Learning outcomes

After this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the complexity of managing cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT)
  • Summarise the current evidence for the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with CAT and their place within clinical guidelines
  • Identify clinical scenarios in which DOACs should be avoided or used with caution in patients with CAT
