About this event

This session will kick off an exciting 3 part series to build the confidence and competence of pharmacy teams in the diagnosis, assessment and management of type 2 diabetes. Before exploring the latest guideline updates, this session will revisit the essentials of diabetes care. We will review the pathophysiology of diabetes, treatment goals, and the core medication classes used in management. Practical discussion will focus on how pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can support treatment optimisation, patient education, and safe medicines use across clinical settings.

Aim

The aim of this session is to enhance the confidence and clinical capability of attendees in diabetes management through a structured review of core principles of diabetes assessment, physical examination and diagnosis.

Target audience

This session is ideal for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working in hospital and generalist settings (such as general practice and community pharmacy) who would benefit from a practical refresher on the fundamentals of diabetes.

Learning outcomes

After this webinar, attendees should be able to:

  1. Describe the key pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance to discuss how these influence management approaches.
  2. Outline the core components of diabetes diagnosis, assessment and brief overview of management, including glycaemic targets, lifestyle interventions, and commonly used pharmacological therapies.
