About this event

Our expert speakers will guide you through the four pillars of advanced level practice with high value learning and reflection relating to each element.

Attendees will hear about the latest game changing developments in IV fluids and pharmacogenomics, as well as a discussion around how we should be using alpha 2 agonists in 2025.

There will be a discussion around developing workforce business cases and the pharmacy team, and the day will be rounded off with some ‘clinical pearls’ sessions designed to provide concise, high impact insights that you can reflect on and apply when heading back to your workplace.

In addition to learning, this is a perfect opportunity to network with peers, including pharmacists driving the national agenda and leading the development of critical care pharmacy.

This symposium has been developed for critical care pharmacists practicing at advanced level. However, other pharmacists may find it useful.

We aim to provide knowledge and skills for advanced level pharmacists who are responsible for the care of critically patients. The symposium will provide a conducive environment for informal discussion, thereby strengthening the critical care pharmacists’ network across the UK, as well as highlighting the importance of working together to achieve the best outcome for patients.

Learning outcomes

  • To apply evidence-based strategies to optimise fluid management and precision medicines in critically ill patients
  • To describe how pharmacogenomics is developing and impacting on drug selection and dosing within critical care
  • To discuss the evolving role of alpha 2 agonists in critical care including sedation, delirium management, and haemodynamic effects
  • To develop strategies to create compelling business cases that advocate for expanded pharmacy services in critical care
  • To identify key workforce challenges, and discus solutions for growing pharmacy teams.
