Prof Mahendra G Patel OBE

A trailblazing pharmacist and global leader in pharmacy. He is currently professor of pharmacy in the UK, USA, and previously Malaysia.

A founding member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, he has served as its national board member and treasurer. Additionally, he is a member of the Bioethics International Teaching Faculty UNESCO and Patron of the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association.

Mahendra was the first to recieve a Fellowship from NICE, where he developed a student champions initiative that became a national programme in over 40 universities. He is also the first to become International Fellow of the Indian Pharmaceutical Society for his work on reducing antimicrobial resistance in India.

Mahendra is a national lead in the world’s largest and fastest recruiting clinical trials for Covid-19 in primary care at the University of Oxford with work published on worldwide platforms. He is now the founding member and head of its Centre for Research Equity supporting inclusive participation in clinical research.

Mahendra is Professional Advisor to the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer NHS England. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to pharmacy, he was awarded an OBE in 2022, and an Honorary Doctor of Health by the University of Bradford. He is also an Honorary Member of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK.

Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam MBE

Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam is a public health specialist with a clinical background in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, and infectious diseases.

He is a former Deputy Chief Medical Officer (2017-2022) and until recently held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, at the University of Nottingham.

Jonathan received a knighthood from Her Majesty the Queen in her 2022 New Year’s Honours List, for services to public health. He has also been awarded the Royal Society’s Attenborough Award and Lecture for outstanding public engagement in science. 

Affectionately known as JVT, Jonathan is an avid football fan, holding a season ticket for Boston United, and was praised for using sporting analogies to explain scientific concepts during his Downing Street coronavirus briefings.
