Overview

This masterclass will provide updates on national initiatives to improve medication safety and the sharing of local strategies utilised to prevent harm to patients.  A focus will be on the Medicines Safety Programme including polypharmacy and transfers of care.

There will also be a focus on strategies to prevent harm in particular the use of metrics – to measure improvements in safety.  Attendees will work together in workshops to discuss and formulate action plans to use at their host organisations.

The UKCPA Pain Management Group will deliver a presentation on one of the high-risk medication groups: opioids, and a real case of a Serious Medication Incident review related to opioids.
